1.0 General Description
The Model 269, Opto Isolation Module, provides for a complete full duplex
electrical isolation channel between two RS-232 devices. This isolation is an
important consideration if a system uses different power sources, has noisy
signals or must operate at different ground potentials.
2.0 Specifications
2.1 Interface: Conforms to EIA RS-232 and CCITT V.24.
2.2 Connectors: DB-25M and RJ12
2.3 Data Rate: 19.2 KBPS
2.4 Isolation: 4000 VAC
2.5 Power: None required, power derived from incoming data signals.
2.6 Size: 2"W x 4.1"L x 0.75"H (51mm x 104mm x 19mm)
2.7 Environment: 0° to 50° C, 5 to 95% RH (no condensation)
3.0 Operation
The Model 269 has been designed with a male DB25 connector and a RJ-12. On the
DB-25 side, there is a DTE/DCE switch that allows pins 2 and 3 to be reversed.
When configured as a DTE the unit will connect to a DCE device, such as a modem
and when configured as a DCE the Model 269 will connect to a DTE such as a PC.
The RJ-12 side is not equipped with a DTE/DCE switch. The direction and pin
assignment is shown in the following figure.

4.0 Troubleshooting
The following is a list of possible problems that may arise during the
installation and solutions to these problems:
1. The data being received is garbled?
a) The DTE/DCE switch is not set properly (see Sec. 3).
b) The equipment that the Model 269 is connected to does not have the
communication parameters set the same.
2. No data is being received.
a) Customer equipment not connected to the Model 269.
b) The DTE/DCE switch is not set properly (see Sec. 3).
c) One or more wires between the interface converters are open.
d) Link connection exceeds RS-232 maximum specified distance.
5.0 Power
The Model 269 derives all power from the incoming data line on both sides, which
must be at least -5.0V min. in the quiescent state.
